Do you know where your food comes from?

No, not the grocery store where you buy it, but beyond that. How does the farm that supplied you with your products grow their produce? Knowing the way that a farm functions creates a personal relationship between you and your food. Sow Good Farms wants you to know just how much we care about the produce we supply you with. We also offer educational tours for groups that want a more immersive learning experience. Book one with us today!

Here’s how we do it!

365 Growing

Our farm doesn’t abide by the idea of only growing during particular seasons. We grow all year round! While this can prove to be tricky (especially in winter), we have finely honed our planting, growing, and harvesting techniques to tackle each growing season.

Solar Powered

Sow Good Farms makes great use of the sun. Not only is the majority of our farm solar-powered, but we even use solar aquaponics! Solar power is great for farms looking to use clean energy and not cause pollution.

Aquaponics

This technique of farming is an amazing asset to us, as it helps us grow all year round! Aquaponics is a sustainable way of raising fish and vegetables together. This method of growing allows us to grow more food, all while using less water and land. The fish provide us with natural fertilizer for our plants, while our plants provide the fish with purified water. It is truly a match made in heaven. Aquaponics also helps us remain free of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides!

Compost Heated

Keeping plants warm during the winter months is very important to a year-round farm. Instead of using natural gas, we use compost gas. To heat greenhouses in the winter months, we use stored gas from our compost.

Heirloom Foods

Eating food is a joy, but eating heirloom fruits and vegetables provides something more than joy. Heirloom foods are foods that were commonly grown in earlier periods of human history. We love these fruits and vegetables because they are open-pollinated instead of hybrids. When you eat heirloom foods, you won’t just feel happy, but you will feel a connection to the past. It feels amazing to eat the same foods as your ancestors!

Lunar Farming

Did you know that the moon generates a force that creates greater water content in the soil? This leads to enhanced seed growth and sprouting. Plants absorb more water during a full and new moon. Increased moonlight can even influence the growth of plants and stimulate leaf growth.

Regenerative Farming

This type of farming looks to enhance and rehabilitate the entire ecosystem of a farm. Regenerative farming is done by placing a heavy focus on soil health, water management, fertilizer use, and more. We recycle as much farm waste as possible with our compost.

 Educational tours

** While we are eager to ask you and a group here to visit Sow Good Farms, your wellness is more important to us. This is why we will not proceed with any educational group outings until COVID-19 is resolved. Even so, the educational aspect of our farms is a great opportunity that will be waiting for you! **

Sow Good Farms isn’t just here to grow delicious food, we believe that our farm provides the perfect learning experience for people of all ages, children and seniors alike. Whether it is with a school class or even residents of a nursing home, we have much to share. Once your group is here, they will learn where their food comes from and how it is grown. We will show everyone how a Midwestern 365 farm functions through exciting and innovative processes like aquaponics. Our farm is self-sufficient, sustainable, and makes use of renewable energy. We will also teach you about the benefits and uses of compost, how to grow a vertical garden in your own backyard, and how to enable the use of sun and rainwater for a healthy, happy garden. There is always something new to learn here at Sow Good Farms.

After a tour, your group will join us for an amazing farm-to-plate lunch made by our in-house chefs. We hope to inspire you to grow your own backyard garden. To help you get started with this, we will provide a free bag of compost and a pack of seeds of your choice. This can be an amazing trip for motivation and education. Bring your school, church, club, or business teams for an unforgettable experience. Sow Good Farms grows because of amazing guests like you attending our learning programs to bring us fantastic ideas and inspiration! The team at Sow Good Farms loves to learn from you as much as we love getting to share our knowledge!
